FIRST CONTAINERIZED SEEDLINGS HAVE GERMINATED

First pine seedlings have germinated in the containers filled and sown during the test run of the automated filling and seeding production line at Lokorsko nursery. Warm autumn weather has contributed to this unexpected germination and the seedlings started their growth in the end of October.
Currently, experts of Southwestern State Forest Enterprise and Forest Seed Control Station Sofia are collecting seeds of various forest species, which will be treated and stored over the winter to be used for seedling production in spring 2019. Under the project over 2200 kg of oak acorns were collected, treated and stored at the premises of Lokorsko nursery by the end of October.
In parallel first project reforestation works are already ongoing on a total area of 9.3 ha of priority habitats damaged by forest fires in Kresna and Dupnitsa State Forestry Units.
